ACOUSTIC SOUND INSULATION MEMBRANE

Applications
Acoustiblok is a flexible high performance and super-versatile sound insulation membrane developed on NASA technology in the USA. This ‘best-in-class’ soundproofing viscoelastic polymer material is very flexible, making it easy to cut and shape with a standard craft knife.
Our 3mm soundproof insulation membrane can be used within all types of construction, typically in walls and ceiling installations to enhance the Transmission Loss (TL) of standard assemblies as well as within varying commercial and industrial applications.
Acoustiblok insulation membrane is designed to attenuate air and structure borne noise in domestic, commercial and industrial buildings both under refurbishment and being newly constructed. Typical applications include flats and houses, home cinemas, offices, hotels, hospitals and healthcare establishments, schools, commercial movie theatres, sports facilities, engines rooms, marine and heavy industrial facilities.
Acoustiblok can also be used to defend against impact sound within floor insulation treatments when required.
Acoustiblok 3mm soundproof insulation is UL approved for use in walls, floors and ceilings, and contains no lead or any types of asbestos materials. It is typically applied as part of a layered wall or floor construction, either tacked to the studs prior to drywall or draped over joists before sub-floor.

Performance
Acoustiblok reduces sound transmission through a unique process known as thermal conversion, where problematic sound waves are converted into trace element heat waves via molecular movement and friction and dispersed sideways through the material.
Acoustiblok will typically raise the Sound Transmission Classification (STC) of any standard construction assembly. This is done by increasing internal dampening, creating an airtight seal, and being flexible rather than rigid, unlike many construction materials.
It provides a highly effective solution across differing frequencies, including problematic low frequencies under 100HZ.
Acoustiblok is UL (Underwriters Laboratories) approved in walls, floors and ceilings. It is impervious to water or moisture, very flexible and cuts with a box knife. It can be nailed, stapled or glued and is non corrosive, and temperature tested up to 200 degrees.
Acoustiblok will not mildew – ideal for basements or in attics, and will not compress under carpet and is highly UV resistant.
In addition to walls and floors, ceilings, doors and even window blind systems are also suggested treatment areas to further reduce sound transmission.
Acoustiblok vs Mass Loaded Vinyl
Very often we hear of manufacturers claiming their sound insulating material is exactly the same as Acoustiblok – we can tell you for a fact that’s it’s not. Their performance doesn’t even come close!
Our proprietary sound insulation material uses a formulated viscoelastic polymer that is unmatched in acoustical performance. When comparing similar sized samples side by side, you will find significant weight and flexibility differences between us and the competition. Many similar materials are stiff and heavy – others are limp and light.
Acoustiblok ́s unique material composition expends the greatest amount of acoustical energy of any similar product or assembly size. It has been extensively tested acoustically by independent accredited facilities, within many different wall, floor and ceiling configurations.
Only controlled laboratory tests provide an accurate baseline of performance repeatability in your project installations. Field tests should never be used to establish project performance specifications due to variations in materials, installation, room sizes, etc.

Best in Class
Many competing manufacturer’s published acoustical ratings are nothing more than copied ratings from other similar material websites, marketing brochures, or calculated values.
In fact, we are unaware of any equivalent product that has actually been lab tested and produced a valid report to substantiate their claims. As the manufacturer, Acoustiblok ́s proprietary formulation and manufacturing process controls are regularly monitored by U.L. Labs to assure consistent product performance.
STC ratings are only a portion of the acoustical differences. Acoustiblok has performed extended frequency testing of its wall assemblies to provide more accurate real world performance references. STC ratings are established based upon transmission losses of frequencies only between 125 and 4000 Hz. This test specification was established long ago to cover basic vocal ranges.
Todays lifestyles of higher density living, modern electronics, and other factors show that this limited test does not provide an accurate indication of the assemblies effectiveness in present day living. Extended frequency testing shows that Acoustiblok provides an incredible 53dB reduction in a standard single stud assembly with only one layer of Acoustiblok.
Sustainability
Acoustiblok 3mm Insulation Membrane is rated with the highest score possible (10) for protection against mould & mildew growth (Independent & Certified ASTM D3273 test).
We know of no other similar product achieving an acceptable rating let alone the highest rating. Acoustiblok is also a fully recyclable product making it friendly to the environment and is manufactured using over 80% organic and recyclable material content.
Non hazardous and odour free, it will not diminish in performance over time.
Installed in conjunction with other Acoustiblok accessories including Acoustiblok Acoustical Sound Sealant and Acoustiblok AcoustiGrip Tape will provide world class results that no other materials comes close to achieving!
