ACOUSTIC SOUND ISOLATION MEMBRANE

Applications
Acoustiblok 6mm sound isolation membrane is a high-performance solution designed to reduce sound transmission in floor installations. Developed with advanced NASA-inspired technology in the USA, this flexible viscoelastic polymer material is easy to cut and shape with a standard craft knife, making it ideal for seamless integration into a variety of flooring systems.
Specifically engineered for tackling airborne, structural, and impact noise, the 6mm membrane is particularly effective when used within layered floor constructions. Whether draped over joists before sub-flooring or integrated beneath flooring materials, it delivers exceptional performance in both new builds and refurbishment projects.
While its primary application is in floors, the Acoustiblok 6mm membrane’s versatility extends to walls and ceilings, making it suitable for environments such as homes, offices, hotels, schools, and even industrial facilities. It significantly enhances the transmission loss (TL) of standard assemblies, providing superior noise attenuation for both domestic and commercial spaces.
This UL-approved membrane is free from lead and asbestos and is safe, durable, and long-lasting. Its ability to address impact noise, combined with its ease of use, makes it an indispensable component in creating quieter, more comfortable environments.

Performance
Acoustiblok 6mm sound isolation membrane reduces sound transmission through an innovative process called thermal conversion.
By converting disruptive sound waves into trace heat energy via molecular friction, the material disperses noise laterally, effectively minimising sound impact. This versatile membrane offers exceptional performance across all frequencies, including challenging low frequencies below 100Hz.
Tested and approved by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for use in walls, floors, and ceilings, Acoustiblok is water-resistant, highly flexible, and easy to work with. It can be cut with a utility knife, fastened with nails, staples, or adhesive, and withstands temperatures up to 200 degrees without corroding.
Its resistance to mildew makes it ideal for damp spaces like basements or attics, while its durability ensures it won’t compress under carpets. Additionally, the material is highly UV-resistant, making it suitable for a wide range of applications beyond floors and walls, including ceilings, doors, and even window blind systems, to further enhance soundproofing performance.
Acoustiblok vs Mass Loaded Vinyl
It’s not uncommon to encounter claims that other sound insulation materials are equivalent to Acoustiblok. The reality? They simply aren’t. No competitor’s product matches the acoustical performance of our proprietary material.
Acoustiblok 6mm sound isolation membrane is crafted from a specially engineered viscoelastic polymer that sets a new standard for soundproofing. When you compare similar-sized samples, the difference is clear: Acoustiblok’s balance of weight, flexibility, and performance is unmatched. Many competing materials are either too stiff and heavy or too limp and lightweight to deliver comparable results.
This unique formulation efficiently dissipates more acoustical energy than any product of similar size or construction. Its superior performance has been rigorously verified through independent acoustic testing in various wall, floor, and ceiling configurations.
For accurate performance benchmarks, rely on controlled laboratory testing rather than field tests. Variables such as material types, installation methods, and room dimensions can significantly impact real-world outcomes, making lab tests the only reliable standard for ensuring repeatable performance in your projects.

Best in Class
Many competing manufacturers present acoustical ratings that are little more than copied figures from similar materials’ websites, promotional brochures, or theoretical calculations.
To date, we have yet to see any comparable product undergo legitimate lab testing and provide a credible report to substantiate performance claims. In contrast, Acoustiblok’s proprietary formulation and manufacturing processes are rigorously monitored by U.L. Labs, ensuring consistent and reliable product quality.
While STC ratings are often highlighted, they represent only part of the acoustical performance story. Acoustiblok goes further, conducting extended frequency testing on its wall assemblies to deliver a more accurate representation of real-world performance.
Traditional STC ratings measure transmission losses in the frequency range of 125 to 4000 Hz – parameters set long ago to address basic vocal frequencies. However, today’s environments, characterized by high-density living and advanced electronics, demand more comprehensive testing to reflect modern challenges. Acoustiblok’s extended frequency results demonstrate an impressive 53dB noise reduction in a standard single-stud assembly using just one layer of our 6mm membrane, offering unparalleled soundproofing for today’s needs.
Sustainability
Acoustiblok 6mm Sound Isolation Membrane has achieved the highest possible score (10) for resistance to mould and mildew growth, as verified by the independent ASTM D3273 test.
To our knowledge, no comparable product has even met acceptable standards in this area, let alone attained the top rating. Additionally, Acoustiblok is an environmentally friendly choice, being fully recyclable and made from over 80% organic and recyclable materials.
This non-hazardous, odour-free membrane is designed for lasting performance, maintaining its effectiveness over time without degradation.
When paired with complementary Acoustiblok products – such as Acoustiblok Acoustical Sound Sealant and Acoustiblok AcoustiGrip Tape – the 6mm membrane ensures exceptional, world-class soundproofing results that remain unmatched by other solutions.
