Soundproofing Live Music Venue – The Ferry Glasgow
Acoustiblok has successfully assisted many bars, night-clubs and soundproofing live music venues facing noise nuisance complaints, noise abatement notices and related health and safety issues, one of them being The Ferry, an icon of Glasgow’s cultural and night life scene.
Problems for Glasgow’s much–loved floating night club and live music venue, began when its switched moorings along the River Clyde to make way for a new bridge.
But music from live band acts and the nightclub netted venue owners, Frank Taylor and Joe Gillon, more than 130 complaints from nearby residents in the Broomielaw district.
Despite a new business focus on day time trade, pre-booked night time gigs had to be cancelled and the Ferry’s future in the city looked likely to sink.
Brian McGraw from the council’s development and regeneration services said following The Ferry’s move along the Clyde the pressure was on to find a solution for night time gigs otherwise the business faced serious jeopardy.
Together with Mr Taylor and Mr Gillon, they called in Acoustiblok.
Mr McGraw said:
“The Ferry is an unusual construction of steel and glass. It’s ability to contain sound was very poor, but we also had to be mindful of the character of the vessel and also of the weight issue because it is a floating venue.
“Acoustiblok suited the vessel perfectly and we were amazed by the effectiveness of the material. We have no concerns regarding noise now, in fact The Ferry hosted heavy metal rock band Saxon soon after the installation and despite volumes of 107 decibels not one complaint was made.”
Mr McGraw, Glasgow Council’s development and regeneration services.
Mr Taylor added: ”There has not been one problem since the installation, it certainly worked for us.”
